Data Select director Andy Tow to be new Avenir MD
Former Unique chief and current Data Select director Andy Tow will be made managing director at Avenir following the departure of Tanny Price.
Tow has been headhunted to take on the Avenir role in December, where he will take the reins as the company plans to extend its leadership of the b2b airtime distribution market. Avenir is also adjusting to the new challenge of IT and mobile convergence, where traditional rivals have stepped up their game and new competitors from the IT market are entering into mobile airtime relationships.
Tow spent 16 years at Vodafone between 1985 and 2001 in several roles, including head of indirect sales.
Price announced her exit to middle management at Avenir last week, and to network partners on Monday (10 November 2008). She leaves to join Vodafone’s enterprise division in a newly-created role that covers dealers and distributors.
Price will start in January, although the specifics of her job title and duties were unknown as Mobile went to press. She will report to Amanda Baker (enterprise sales director) who sits within the division of Vodafone’s new enterprise chief, Peter Kelly. Price leaves after four years as managing director at Avenir and after a total of 11 years at the company.
Tow joined Data Select in February this year as managing director of the mobile managed services division (responsible for selling packages to corporate customers through dealers and IT resellers). He joined after a torrid spell at the helm of former distributor, Unique. Prior to this, Tow had been in charge of Adam Phones.
Tow said: ‘Avenir has always been a progressive company and pioneered development within the market. This bold approach will continue under my tenure. We will further develop our relationships with all five networks, and we will continue to focus our efforts on the IT reseller market, solidifying our existing strong partnerships.’
Price said: ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Avenir and I am proud of
all that the company has achieved in securing the market-leading position that it has today.’
