Brightstar’s sales director, Jolyon Bennett, has exited the distributor, Mobiletoday can reveal.
An agreement was signed between Bennett and Brightstar last Friday with suppliers notified today (Monday).
Bennett is now on paid gardening leave for six months, taking him through until the end of the year.
It is believed to be an amicable split, with Bennett keen to pursue new interests a year after he joined the then UK start-up distributor. He has a ten year career in mobile distribution and said he is keen to take a break.
‘I’ve had fantastic year at Brightstar, but after ten years in distribution, I would like to take a break in my career. I believe the company has an extremely exciting and prosperous future ahead of it,’ said Bennett.
Bennett joined in June 2008 as his previous employer, Unique Distribution, went into administration and Brightstar’s European president Rod Millar took Bennett and the 20-man sales team.
Brighstar had relocated its sales office from Basingstoke to Oxford to accommodate the sales team, but switched back to Basingstoke in recent months.
The 44 mile distance between Brightstar’s Basingstoke offices and Bennett’s Oxford home is believed to have hastened Bennett’s exit.
Millar said this week: ‘Joe made a tremendous impact for the business, especially in building the dealer team when he joined. I’ve enjoyed working with him and wish him all the best for all he does in the future.’
