BlackBerrys fuel demand for data transfer service between handsets

Data Swap has become the sole UK agent for a new service offering to transfer data from one phone to another – even across different manufacturers.

The north London company is able to transfer all data including contacts, calendar entries, messages, pictures and music files onto a new handset.

The company’s MD, Ruben Babaev, said there has already been high demand for transfers from Nokia devices to BlackBerrys and iPhones.

It works via an exchange unit with an array of leads for different devices.
Dealers can take on the unit at a cost of £300 for 100 transfers if they want to offer the service to consumers.

Babaev said: ‘It costs a dealer £3 to transfer absolutely everything from one device to another. The dealer then has the choice to charge the ?customer anything from £5 to £40 for the service, or include it as part ?of the package.’

Dealers that have signed up to Data Swap claim to be selling the service to around 10 to 15 customers per day.
