Acer opens door to UK distributors with further smartphones and netbooks planned
Acer is planning an open distribution policy as it prepares to launch more smartphones and netbooks in the UK in 2009.
The manufacturer will aim to establish a presence in ‘every channel’ and will sell to both mobile and IT distributors.
Acer UK general manager Bobby Watkins told Mobile: ‘We want to be visible in the right channels so we have an open distribution strategy. It will make a huge difference on how we take to market.’
The company has released two smartphones this year, the M900 and the F900, which are distributed by Micro-P and Data Select. It will release another four to five products over the coming months, including an Android phone in Q4.
Acer does not currently have any exclusive deals planned with networks – although it confirmed it will have netbooks in 3 – but Watkins added that this was not something the manufacturer ‘wouldn’t do’.
