O2 in BlackBerry ‘handheld’ scheme
O2 and RIM’s BlackBerry have re-launched the ‘handheld programme’ – a scheme that allows dealers to purchase devices at a reduced rate.
The scheme, which is running at HSC and Avenir, enables dealers to buy handsets at a 50% discount.
One distribution source said: ‘BlackBerry is keen to get dealers using the products because it believes they will sell more if they use it themselves. It is almost like a marketing tool that allows dealers to strategically place the devices.’
The reduction on the cost of the handsets is only available for O2 connections.
Dealers can buy a BlackBerry Curve 8900 for £97 or a BlackBerry Bold 9000 (pictured) for £124.50.
According to a notice sent out to dealers, the purpose of the promotion is to allow dealers to use the devices in activities including: marketing, customer demonstration and training.
