Phonetek gains two JAG stores
South-western mobile dealer Phonetek Nation has acquired two JAG franchises and is looking to take on further sites.
The retail dealer previously had two independent retail outlets, but was forced to downsize after economic problems.
The move into the JAG franchise scheme will see the independent retailer grow to three stores.
Phonetek Nation’s repairs and services director, Jamie Turner, said: ‘We have taken on two JAG stores and it is a great opportunity for us.’
The stores, based in Exeter and Bridport in Dorset, opened on 1 September.
Turner said: ‘We were interested in the franchise because we can provide all the services under one roof.
We do contracts, prepay and repairs and want to bring customer service to the mobile phone industry.’
The dealer is currently looking at another franchise with a view to opening it between the end of October and the beginning of November.
JAG MD John George (pictured) said: ‘The deal went through on Monday and they have options on another one or two – this will push the total up to 58. There is still plenty of interest around and we only have nine outlets left [until all the franchise stores are taken].’
He added: ‘The 15% sales increase in August was a result of the franchisees having time to settle down and getting up to speed.
‘We have had a few issues with systems, and it is more and more about how we actually do things – the way we push stock around – as well as understanding that, fundamentally, our franchises are now our customers.’
