Data Select boosts Sim team
Hardware distributor Data Select has boosted its Sim card sales team with the appointment of former Vectone man Carl Knight as direct sales manager.

Knight has previously worked at MVNOs Vectone Mobile and Nomi.

He will report to Stafford Wright, director of projects at Phones International, and will work alongside Mark Jones, business development manager for prepay Sims.

Knight joins one of the smallest teams at the distributor. The move reflects the growing trend of distributors increasing their product portfolios, with Sim cards a key product.

The distributor recently partnered with memory card manufacturer San Disk; however, its core business remains handset distribution.

Data Select CEO George McPherson said: ‘Sim cards are not a big part of our business, but in that particular channel, it is important to have our own direct sales team. Carl was recommended to us and will be building up the channel.’

The distributor claims on its website that it distributed over two million Sim cards from all the major networks last year, with ‘each supported by bespoke point of sale material’.

One source said: ‘Data Select distributes a lot of Sim cards.

It is a really high volume business and the connection rate is probably 1% to 2%. It’s a slightly odd market, but there is a need for it.’
