Brightstar to acquire Austrian distributor  AKL
Brightstar Europe is planning to enter the Austrian market through the acquisition of mobile and fixed line distributor, AKL.

Handset distributor Brightstar Europe, has announced that it is planning to acquire a 100% shareholding in AKL, one of Austrias leading suppliers of mobile telephony and fixed line telephony to dealers and consumer electronics stores.

Brightstar Europe currently operates in the UK, Germany, France, Spain and the Benelux.

The acquisition is still subject to approval from Austrias Federal Competition Authority and is expected to close by the end of May. AKL currently distributes for Orange, Nokia and Samsung.

AKL customers will benefit from combined product and service portfolios, which will include access to portable PC brands and the introduction of BlackBerry products to the Austrian market.

Brighstar Europe president, Rod Millar said: 'The agreement to acquire AKL Telecommunications is further evidence of Brightstar Europes pan-European growth strategy. AKL has an excellent reputation in the Austrian market with a skilled workforce, a strong vendor portfolio and a loyal customer base, all of which we look forward to working with in the future'.

AKL owner, Wolfgang Atzinger, said: 'With Brightstar Europe, we will have the ability to satisfy both IT and telco customers with a complete product portfolio and a wide range of services'.

After the acquisition, AKL will continue to operate as a separate entity.
