Vodafone poaches O2 prepay chief Williamson
Vodafone has poached O2 prepay chief, Michael Williamson, as part of a drive to grow prepay across its global operating countries, well placed sources told Mobile.
It is understood Williamson will take up the newly created role of global head of customer acquisitions in November. He has been tasked with fuelling Vodafone’s prepay customer growth in direct and indirect channels and across all regions.
Williamson joined O2 in March 2003 when O2 was placed fourth in the UK prepay market. Sources said he is regarded as being a driving force behind transforming the operator’s prepay proposition, which has since moved up to claim the leadership position in the prepay market.
In September 2008 he took on the role of head of pay & go, putting him in charge of all commercial aspects of O2’s prepay business. He oversaw the launch of propositions such as Top-Up Surprises and its Pay & Go Simplicity tariff as well as overhauling O2’s loyalty rewards programme.
