O2 cuts exclusive deal for HTC HD7 Windows 7 smartphone

O2 has cut an exclusive deal with HTC for the HTC HD7 smartphone.

The handset, powered by Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 OS, will launch on O2 on 21 October on a £40 two year tariff and on pay-as-you-go for £379.  

The HD7 boasts the biggest screen and memory of all Windows Phone 7 smartphones launched to date. It comes with a 4.3-inch touch-screen and 16GB of memory. It also packs a1GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250 processor and a five-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and HD video recording.

The phone is aimed at consumer and business users and the gaming community. 

Features include the Windows Phone 7 People hub, which allows users’ contacts to sit alongside Facebook and Windows Live friends, pictures and feeds.

The Games hub connects to customers' Xbox Live profile, allowing users to play games against their Xbox Live friends, join leaderboards and earn achievements.

The Windows Phone 7 Office hub allows users to view and edit Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents as well as creating notes in OneNote Mobile that sync wirelessly online. 

Steve Alder, O2's devices manager, said: 'Windows Phone 7 is a completely fresh start for Microsoft and brings them right into the smartphone space. The HTC HD7 a great exclusive for O2 and means that our customers will get the very best experience out of Windows Phone 7.’

With the integration of Microsoft’s most popular services like Xbox Live and Zune, Windows Phone 7 is a truly compelling mobile platform. The HTC HD7 has a large, high-resolution screen which makes it perfect for playing games and enjoying videos.’

The HTC HD7 will be available on O2’s range of Pay Monthly Smartphone tariffs, which come with unlimited Wi-Fi at The Cloud and BT Openzone hotspots. The HTC HD7 is free on a £40 24 month tariff that comes with 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB UK data. The HTC HD7 will also be available on O2’s range of pay-as-you-go tariffs for £379.

O2s pay as you go tariffs are quite poor offering for data I think - I think every other network is cheaper.
