Samsung Galaxy Tab goes on sale

Samsung Galaxy Tab goes on sale
Samsung’s latest Android product and first tablet device went on sale today (1 November) across a number of retailers and operators.

The Galaxy Tab will be on sale in Vodafone, Phones 4u, Carphone Warehouse, O2 and Three, which have all released pricing for the product.

The tablet device was launched at IFA in Berlin this year. At the time Samsung senior product manager Carey McGregor said: ‘This [the tablet market] is a new category for us, and Android is key to us at the moment. The success of the Galaxy S has lifted our presence within the smartphone segment. Samsung is getting a good reputation with the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab is the start of the story in tablets.’

The Galaxy Tab is available from £499.99 when bought alone, but retailers are offering the product at a discounted rate when bought in conjunction with another product. Samsung is expected to launch more tablets in the future.

Apple launched the iPad six months ago and has reported that it had sold 2 million iPads globally in the first two months after launch.

Analysts are predicting a significant increase in the number of tablets shipped over the next five years.
