Tesco enters international calling card market
Tesco has launched an international calling card to rival incumbents Lycatel and Lebara.
The supermarket has been trialling the product in 1,000 Metro and Express stores across the country, resulting in one card being sold a minute.
Tesco estimates that the international calling card market is worth £250m a year.
Tesco Telecoms and Mobile chief executive Lance Batchelor (pictured) said: ‘There are millions of people in the UK who need to be able to call abroad and we believe this service will make a real difference to them. Our customers have told us that the calling card market needs to be cleaned up.
‘Consumers want honest, simple prices, convenience and good service. The card allows people the flexibility to call where they want, whenever they want, without the need for a prescriptive bundle or subscription service.’
Low cost calls can be made to over 60 countries starting from 2p a minute.
