T-Mobile is staging a promotional campaign at Manchester Airport (25 November) today featuring YouTube sensation Merton.
Merton, who is known online as the 'piano improv guy', is set up in an arrivals area serenading arriving passengers with a live performance from his pink grand piano.
The tone of the event aims to mirror T-Mobile's recent advertising activity with cheeky, gentle humour.
Merton became an internet phenomenon earlier this year when he improvised songs to strangers he met on Chatroulette.com.
The move follows the successful launch of the new advert filmed at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 in October.
Up to 10,000 people are expected to pass through Terminal 2 arrivals at Manchester today.
Merton said: ‘I’ve been approached by a lot of companies to improvise songs since the success of the Chatroulette videos, but none of them ever felt quite right – I think the new T-Mobile campaign is beautiful and I'm glad to be involved in something with such a good natured vibe to it.’
Tina Cleary, senior brand experience manager at T-Mobile, said: ‘The public response to our TV ad filmed in Heathrow has been astounding and we have been inundated with requests to give others a welcome home to remember, so this is exactly what we are going to do. Merton is the perfect person to help us bring a smile to the face of weary travellers with his distinctive, quirky and hilarious improvisation skills meaning we’ll be able to give thousands of people a welcome back to the UK that they’ll never forget and hopefully want to share.’
