Vodafone announces international credit top up transfer service
UK MVNO customers on the Vodafone network will be able to transfer prepay credit to friends and relations abroad from today. Credit from a prepay or postpay account in the UK can be sent to top up the credit of a prepay phone overseas.
The move follows the signing of an exclusive agreement between Vodafone UK and TransferTo to offer international top up transfer services. TransferTo works with over 165 operators in 60 countries to apply the top up credit to the recipient’s account.
The new service lets Vodafone MVNO customers in the UK send small value sums of prepay credit to their relatives and friends in other countries in the form of prepaid top ups. These are generally low in cost for the sender, but high in value for the recipient. The transfer is easy and convenient and takes place instantly, according to Vodafone.
Tim Stone, director of new business development and wholesale at Vodafone UK, said: ‘We are always looking for new wholesale products and services that will enable our MVNO partners to continue to develop and succeed in the market. TransferTo is the leading provider with a proven solution and has strong relationships already in place with partner operators in key countries such as India and Pakistan. This partnership further enhances our wholesale portfolio and our position as the wholesale partner of choice.’
Eric Barbier, CEO of TransferTo, said: ‘Thanks to this new partnership with Vodafone UK Wholesale, people in this country will be able to send instant gifts to their loved ones from their prepaid phones for the first time.’
