Google reveals Samsung Nexus S
The Google Nexus S – the second Google branded device – will act as a halo product for other Android products, Carphone Warehouse CCO Graham Stapleton told Mobile on Monday (6 December).

Stapleton was speaking after the retailer announced they had secured the exclusive distribution for the Google Nexus S ahead of Christmas. It will launch elsewhere at a later date.

Stapleton said: ‘We have a very strong relationship with Google and it’s been enhanced with Best Buy. It is a flagship device for Google and this may be a halo product for Android.’

Both retailers will offer the Samsung-made Nexus S for free from £35 per month or Sim-free from £549.95.

The pair have yet to confirm which networks will carry the handset.

Carphone said the Nexus S, which is the first device to feature the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system, is the ‘must-have phone of the year’.

The handset, which will be limited in its availability this year due to component shortages, has NFC functionality and a curved screen.

Stapleton said: ‘This is a flagship handset for Google and Android.’

He added: ‘Android is the best selling OS globally. This quarter I think it will become the best selling OS across the Carphone Group.’
