HTC boosts UK senior management team
HTC is boosting its senior management team as part of a wider plan to grab greater market share in 2011.
Three senior management roles have been created – head of sales retail and distribution, head of sales network and head of marketing.
Two of the three new posts have already been filled. Peter Shackleton, HTC’s Carphone Warehouse account manager, has taken on the new role as sales retail and distribution chief, while Fiona Harnden, HTC’s Vodafone account manager, has been chosen to head up network operations. HTC is currently recruiting for the third new role, head of marketing.
The manufacturer is also on the hunt for candidates to replace Shackleton and Harnden in their former posts and is planning to boost its account management team.
Speaking to Mobile, HTC executive director for UK and Ireland Jon French (pictured) said: ‘We are strengthening the team to match the significant growth we underwent last year and to gear up for the additional significant demand we expect through 2011.’
He added: ‘This is all about the customer and is designed to get us even closer to our customers.’
HTC saw major growth in its UK sales in 2010 with HTC smartphone sales outperforming the global average. Analysts estimate that the manufacturer is shipping around 200,000 units into all UK channels each month, up from around 50,000 at the turn of 2010.
French believes this trend will continue. He predicts huge growth in demand from the larger retail market in 2011, pointing to this as a key driver for the manufacturer’s recent handset supply deal with distributor Brightstar.
French said: ‘The distribution deal with Brightstar is an indication of the way demand for our products and brand has spread so widely across so many different and varied areas.’
He added: ‘Brightstar has a track record for supplying the larger retail market where we have seen huge growth in our products and we also believe they will help us move into new emerging channels.’
