Industry veterans today welcomed the return of Mark ‘Mitch’ Mitchinson, after he left the industry in April last year.
The former Samsung MD took on the role of group MD of business, wholesale and distribution at Carphone today (4 January). He will report to the retailer’s CCO Graham Stapleton.
Jon French, HTC executive director (pictured left), said: ‘HTC has a fantastic relationship with Carphone Warehouse and Mark’s addition to the team can only help strengthen that relationship.’
20:20 marketing director Andrew Peat (pictured right) said: ‘It is lovely to have Mitch back in the industry.’
Sources said the appointment was a good move for Mitchinson. One said: ‘Mark’s still quite young and this will be a good role for him. There will be very few roles that would pay the salary he was on before.’
A manufacturer source added: ‘It’s a different type of challenge for Mitchinson and a different type of business than he’s used to.
In April, Mobile exclusively revealed that Samsung Mobile UK and Ireland VP Mitchinson would leave the Korean manufacturer after 10 years at the helm.
Mitchinson, who was the longest serving UK manufacturer chief, had a considerable influence across Europe and in the product roadmap from Samsung. He was also involved in strategic level deals with operators and retailers at the highest level.
