Samsung launches Galaxy Player

Samsung is targeting Apple’s iPod with its Galaxy Player, which runs on the Android operating system and allows users to download apps.

The device, which was first seen last year, does not have phone capabilities.

The Samsung Galaxy Player now packs Android Froyo (2.2) and the 8GB device undercuts the rival iPod touch by £40.

The player promises access to ‘numerous’ apps and features Wi-Fi capability, with up to 30 hours of audio playback per charge or five hours of video.

Two versions are available from Amazon from Friday 7 January – an 8GB version for £149.99 and a 16GB version that sells for a discounted £151.55 (from £179.99).
