O2 Media has appointed ITV man Gary Cole as commercial director as it drives to scale up sales in 2011.
Cole will officially take on the new role on 31 January.
Cole, who has previously held senior roles with ITV, Telegraph Media Group and Incisive Media, will be responsible for all sales teams across direct, agency and international. He has an extensive background in the UK advertising sector, and is ‘well versed’ with building great sales teams within the new media space, O2 said.
O2 Media MD Shaun Gregory said: ‘I’m thrilled that Gary has joined the team and will lead our commercial expansion in the UK. He has a wealth of experience from the new media marketplace and is one of the most respected figures within the UK advertising sector. He knows how to build great teams, and also innovate within a highly complex and fast moving environment. This appointment reflects our ambition to continue leading the market and cement our position as a thought leader within the mobile and personalisation space.
’We have established ourselves in the market and laid down some great foundations for future growth. We have brought all our products and services in house and ultimately created an end-to-end opportunity for brands and agencies in the UK. The challenge now is to scale the business and we need the best people to do that. Our strategy is to build a market leading personalised media business, and this another step on that journey.’
Cole said: ‘I am delighted to be joining one of the fastest developing brands in the new media market. O2 Media has set itself apart from the rest in 2010 with products and services that are unique in the market. I look forward to working with Shaun and the rest of the team to develop these opportunities and explore new areas. There can be no doubt that the mobile device is an increasingly essential part of the consumer's life and by providing the right advertising solutions, trust and a great quality of service O2 Media can be at the forefront of this exciting sector in the coming years.’
