HTC has unveiled two new smartphones – the HTC ChaCha and the HTC Salsa – that offer instant access to Facebook.
Both smartphones will launch in the UK in Q2 this year and form part of HTC's continuing drive into the social networking market.
Powered by Android Gingerbread 2.3.3, the two smartphones are part of a portfolio of six new HTC devices revealed at Mobile World Congress this week.
The two new phones allow users to connect to Facebook via a one-touch button. The Facebook button is context-aware, pulsing with light whenever there is an opportunity to share content or updates through Facebook.
One press of the button will allow the user to instantly update their status or upload a photo, share a website, post a song being listened to on the phone, ‘check-in’ to a location and more. When the user makes a phone call, the dialer screen displays the user’s friends’ latest status and photos, and sends reminders such as birthday dates. The same updates are also displayed when the user receives a call from a Facebook friend.
Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation said: ‘HTC has always understood that different people want different things and the new HTC ChaCha and Salsa offer special new ways to experience Facebook on a mobile device. With more than 500 million active users worldwide, Facebook has become synonymous with the social web and we wanted to create the ultimate socially connected phones with mass market appeal.’
Henri Moissinac, head of mobile business for Facebook said the two phones represented the next stage of a close collaboration with HTC. He added: ‘HTC has brought Facebook to these two new devices in an innovative way enabling people to connect and share easily whenever they want, wherever they are.’
The HTC ChaCha smartphone sports dual cameras for video chat, including a five-megapixel colour camera with auto-focus and LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera. It also has a 2.6-inch, 480x320 resolution landscape touch-screen.
The HTC Salsa also boasts a five-megapixel camera and a 3.4-inch, 480x320 resolution touch display. It also sports a VGA forward-facing camera for video calling.
