HTC targets gaming community

HTC became the latest manufacturer to target the gaming market at Mobile World Congress this week when it used its stake in games company OnLive to launch the first cloud-based mobile gaming service on its new tablet, the Flyer (pictured).

HTC launched six products in Barcelona this week, its biggest launch ever. The manufacturer built on the success of three of its flagship smartphones by developing three new versions – the HTC Desire S, HTC Wildfire S and HTC Incredible S.

The Wildfire was a big part of HTC’s growth last year as it pushed the manufacturer into the lower price point, HTC UK chief Jon French told Mobile at the show on Tuesday (15 February).

HTC also unveiled two new smartphones – the HTC ChaCha and the HTC Salsa – that offer instant access to Facebook. Both smartphones will launch in the UK in Q2 this year and form part of HTC’s continuing drive into the social networking market.

The two new phones allow users to connect to Facebook via a one-touch button. The Facebook button is context-aware, pulsing with light whenever there is an opportunity to share content or updates through Facebook.
