Second iPad to cost less than original at launch
The iPad 2 will cost less than is predecessor did at launch, latest pricing has revealed.
The device, which goes on sale in the UK at 5pm on Friday, will start at £399 for the 16GB WiFi model. This is £30 less than the launch price for the same model of the original iPad last year.
Meanwhile, the most expensive 64GB WiFi and 3G version will cost £40 less than the same model of the orginal device at £659.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs said: ‘We’re experiencing amazing demand for iPad 2 in the US, and customers around the world have told us they can’t wait to get their hands on it. We appreciate everyone’s patience and we are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.’
The iPad 2 launched in the US on March 11. It is estimated that Apple sold between 400,000 and 500,000 iPad 2s in the first weekend on sale.
