Lumi in talks for broadcasting deal

Lumi Mobile is in talks with a major UK broadcaster to provide mobile interactive services for TV shows.

The company, which recently rebranded from Apollo Mobile, is driving for growth this year, targeting the broadcasting, market research, retail and health sectors.

Lumi Mobile’s co-founder Mark Beilby (pictured) declined to reveal the name of the UK broadcaster, but said negotiations are close to a conclusion.

The company has also sealed another deal to provide real-time audience interaction on two ABC TV shows.

The ABC deal follows a successful partnership with ABC and market research company Ipsos to conduct audience research during the Oscars using downloaded mobile apps to get instant audience reaction.

The company has also worked with Kantar, WPP’s market research arm, on an interactive pilot which was beta tested on The X Factor final last December.

Beilby foresees massive growth in the use of mobile interactive services in the UK broadcasting industry this year, with broadcasters identifying it as a major new source of revenue.

However, Beilby also predicts strong growth in other sectors too, particularly in the market research sector, which provides the bulk of its b2b business, and in the health sector, which he says ‘offers potentially an even bigger business opportunity than market research and broadcasting’.

The company is currently in partnership with Toumaz Technologies, which is using Lumi’s platform to link doctors via their mobile devices to disposable smart ‘band aid’. This means they can monitor and analyse patients’ health while on the move.

Beilby believes Lumi Mobile has the edge on its competitors, claiming that it is the only platform which instantly links mobile users with each other and with clients. He is predicting strong growth, aided by further fundraising.

He added: ‘We want to build a substantial British company - we can’t be complacent as a technology company but we think we have something special and we believe we will be a fast growth company.’
