Sales of Smartphones with five-megapixel cameras to double
Sales of smartphones with five-megapixel cameras or higher will more that double this year, Strategic Analytics has predicted.
The analyst said that fast growth at the high-end of the market will drive sales of smartphones with cameras up 21% to 1.1 billion handsets by this year.
Strategic Analysts director of wireless practice Neil Mawston said: ‘The growing quality of high-tier cameraphones is making them an increasing threat to the lower end of the point-and-shoot digital camera market.’
Meanwhile, the analyst forecasts the digital still market will reach 130 million units in 2011.
Mawston added: ‘Smartphone vendors, such as Nokia and HTC, are increasingly loading their flagship models with more megapixels to deliver improved imaging quality for premium operator services like augmented reality.’
