O2 veteran Lee-Smith appointed UK devices chief

O2 veteran Simon Lee-Smith will replace Steve Alder as O2 general manager of devices for the UK and Europe on 9 May.

It follows Alder’s move to become CEO of O2-owned voice-over IP company Jajah in March this year.

Lee-Smith will be part of O2's Marketing and Consumer Directorate.

He joined BT Cellnet in 2000 and has since held a range of commercial roles both in the UK and Europe. Most recently, he was the head of sales for Telefonica Multinational Solutions which led the MNC business for the UK as part of the global team.

Lee-Smith has a strong network of Telefonica colleagues from around the world and a track record of combining strategic vision with operational delivery.

Meanwhile David Johnson has been promoted to take on the newly expanded role of head of device commercial and product management. He will be responsible for commercial and strategic management of O2's device vendor relationships, selection and management of its device portfolio, as well as product management of all handsets, tablets, Sims, dongles and other gadgets.
