Nokia to cut 700 staff from UK

Around 700 UK Nokia staff will lose their jobs as part of the manufacturer’s recently announced global job cuts.

The staff, which mainly comprise of Nokia’s smartphone division, will be able to stay at the manufacturer until the end of the year.

The move follows Nokia’s announcement today (27 April) that it will cut 4,000 jobs from its global workforce and move 3,000 Symbian staff to IT company Accenture.

The measures form part of Nokia's target to reduce its Devices & Services non-IFRS operating expenses by €1bn for the full year 2013.

Discussions with employee representatives started today.

Nokia expects reductions to occur in phases until the end of 2012, linked to the rollout of its planned product and services portfolio.
