Nokia today (7 July) announced a partnership with UK operator Three on its Ovi Store.
The joint venture, which is also available on pay-as-you-go, will enable Three customers to pay directly for apps using their monthly phone bill. Customers will be able to access the ‘Three Likes’ page, which will include a choice of 40 apps recommended by Three for Nokia’s C7, E7 and N8 devices.
The new service will replace the premium rate SMS service or third party financial service previously used and offer customers a more a seamless transaction.
Three said that it will recommend different apps every week, with a focus on those that offer the latest in entertainment and gaming or deliver navigation aids or help customers save time and money.
Nokia UK MD Conor Pierce said: ‘We are extremely pleased to be able to provide operators an easy and flexible way in which to both differentiate themselves in the marketplace as well as providing a unique and targeted offering to their consumers. We are delighted to be supporting Three with this concept through the Ovi Store.’
Meanwhile, Nokia also announced that its X7 smartphone, which launched this week, will be the first handset to be integrated with the latest version of Ovi Store. The handset will be available on Three’s The One Plan, which offers customers all-you-can-eat data.
Three director of products and services Charlotte Spencer said: ‘This unique Ovi Store partnership is another example of how Three is enhancing the customer experience and is leading the smartphone revolution.
‘By recommending apps that are relevant to our customers and allowing them to pay through their monthly phone bill, customers will have a better, easier and faster experience on the UK’s biggest 3G network.’
