Carphone Warehouse launches assault on b2b market

Carphone Warehouse today launched a major bid to grab a larger share of the UK b2b market by targeting local sole traders and SME customers with what it claims is the widest range of phones, tablets, networks and tariffs available.

The retailer will offer business customers the choice of not only all the operator business tariffs, but a range of unique Carphone tariffs, described by CCO Graham Stapleton, as ‘market-leading – either no one has got them or they are significantly cheaper than what’s out there’.

Speaking to Mobile, Stapleton said: ‘We see this as a very significant move for Carphone Warehouse. There are10 million business mobile phone users in the market and a big proportion of them are not being served by Carphone at the moment. I think our service proposition will make the big difference for customers and we believe we can create value for them.’

As well as offering the widest range of phones, tablets and tariffs, Carphone is offering a Network Price Promise, which means it will not be beaten on price. It is also providing a 14-day coverage guarantee, so customers can test the quality of their reception and change networks if necessary. Carphone will also provide its ‘Walk Out Working’ service either by remote service or through its 820 stores, along with an express handset replacement service.

Stapleton said the main initial marketing thrust will be concentrated online, although all channels will be used including high street stores and its distributor HSC. Phase two will see dedicated business areas being trialled in stores.

Stapleton said the networks are supportive of Carphone’s move and saw it as a good way to reach sole traders and smaller firms that their businesses are not primarily set up to handle.
