HTC has announced its partnership with Beats Electronics after acquiring a 51% share in the audio company known for the iconic Beats by Dr. Dre™ headphones.
The manufacturer today (11 August) confirmed that it would be entering a strategic partnership with the company, which is fronted by superstar rapper Dr. Dre, to bring ‘high-performance sound’ to its handsets.
HTC CEO Peter Chou said: ‘Beats has found a unique way to harness popular culture in a manner that is unlike any other brand today. It’s an exciting brand that has been built around providing something very special, and we believe our strategic partnership will provide customers with unbeatable sound on HTC phones. We obsess over every detail of a consumer’s mobile experience and audio is a critical part of that experience.’
Beats Electronic partners currently include Monster Cable Products Inc., Hewlett-Packard and Chrysler Group LLC.
Beats by Dr. Dre chairman Jimmy Iovine said: ‘The HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre partnership is an opportunity for two world class companies to redefine the smartphone industry and define the future.
‘For Beats by Dr. Dre, this represents a critical step in our continued mission to clean up the destruction of audio caused by the digital revolution; and reengineer how sound is delivered so that the consumer feels the music the way that the artist intended.’
Meanwhile, HTC also announced that Iovine will remain chairman of Beats Electronics. Iovine and Dre will continue to oversee the company together with the rest of the company's current management team.
