Carphone celebrates 10 year partnership with Get Connected

Carphone Warehouse is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of its partnership with charity Get Connected – the UK’s free and confidential helpline service for young people who know they need help but don’t know where to find it.

In 2001,Carphone Warehouse joined forces with Get Connected, supplying the charity’s overhead costs of office space and equipment and in 2002, worked with UK mobile networks to faciliate the provision of free calls to the helpline. This is essential to increase Get Connected’s accessibility to young people.

This year, to celebrate a decade of working together, Carphone Warehouse is aiming to raise £100,000 and support 14,000 young people across the UK by launching a competition to win a Home Entertainment Package (including a 3D TV, PS3, home theatre system and much more). All you need to do to enter this prize draw is answer a simple question via text message (at a charge of £3 per text plus your standard text message charge) to 84424. All proceeds will go towards Get Connected.

Employees of The Carphone Warehouse will also be raising money across the UK throughout the week, with various exciting activities taking place in store.

Since the partnership began in 2001, Carphone Warehouse has raised over £2 million through a number of exciting projects. These include a handset recycling initiative which saw Get Connected receiving a donation for each one of the 20,000 handsets recycled through Carphone Warehouse every year. The total raised to date from this initiative is £370,000.

Carphone Warehouse UK MD Matt Stringer said: ‘Working with Get Connected over the past 10 years has given Carphone Warehouse a great opportunity to extend our work to a worthy cause. Our employees across the UK are extremely enthusiastic and really get behind the initiatives to help raise money and awareness. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be celebrating 10 years of a great partnership and hope to offer our continued support for years to come.’

Get Connected chief executive Fiona Clark said: ‘Throughout the past 10 years, the partnership between Carphone Warehouse and Get Connected has brought reassurance and reliability to thousands of vulnerable children and young people across the UK. The support from The Carphone Warehouse has been invaluable in making help accessible across Britain for those in need. The competition is a great way to fundraise while giving something back to the public too. We look forward to another ten years of fundraising together to support many more young people across the UK.’
