Richard Turner quits Brightstar for Google, say sources

Richard Turner, MD of Brightstar UK & Ireland, is to quit the company to take up a major role at Google overseeing relations with the company's Android handset manufacturers, Mobile understands.

Turner will leave Brightstar this week to take up his new role, say sources.

He will hand over the reins to former LG UK head of mobile Jim Michel, as Mobile revealed exclusively earlier today (20 September).

Turner has over 18 years' experience in telecoms, mostly in mobile. He joined Brightstar Europe in April 2009 as European sales director and was appointed head of the UK and Ireland operation in October 2010.

Before joining Brightstar Europe, Turner was CEO of London-based mobile technology start-up Exradia. He has also worked in senior roles at mobile distributor 20:20 Mobile, Marconi and Nortel Networks, WDS Global and start-up technology companies, Fibreway and ProQuent Systems.

Brightstar and Turner were unavailable for comment.
