Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy slash prices of PlayBook tablet

Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy have slashed the prices of the BlackBerry PlayBook ahead of the crucial Christmas period.

The retailers have cut prices of the tablet by £150 and are offering the device free in a bundle deal with the BlackBerry Curve 3G smartphone on a £31 per month contract.

Under the deal, the 16GB tablet will retail at £249, the 32GB model will cost £329 and the 64GB version will be available for £409. The reduced prices will last until the end of the year.

BlackBerry maker RIM has been forced to deny it is stopping production of its PlayBook tablet following market rumours that it was pulling the plug on the device.

Prices for the tablet have fallen rapidly over recent months after retailers struggled to sell the device at its initial high price range, designed to rival Apple’s iPad models.
