Fans of the iPhone 4S seem to have shunned internet sites like uSwitch in favour of going to operators directly to identify the best price plans.
The October mobile tracker from uSwitch.com shows that the Samsung Galaxy S II maintained its position at the top of the mobile charts for the sixth consecutive month, with the iPhone 4S debuting in sixth place.
Apple’s latest iPhone model was only unveiled on 5 October and was officially launched in the UK on 14 October. It sold out in stores within hours of launch with pre-orders globally topping a million a day, Apple’s most popular launch ever.
However, despite this uSwitch says it is surprised that the strength of the phone has not propelled it to a much higher rank.
As well as the Galaxy S II, the phone is also behind the Galaxy Ace and Galaxy S models and the site saw more searches for the older iPhone 4 model, which is in third place. HTC’s Wildfire S model is also in the top five.
Below the iPhone 4S, HTC makes up the rest of the top 10 with the Sensation, Desire S, Wildfire and Desire rounding off the list respectively. Sony Ericsson fell out of the chart altogether.
Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch.com said: ‘With the winter set to bring a wave of brand new smartphones at a variety of price points, we expect to see new handsets shake up the mobile chart, possibly even unseating the resilient Galaxy S II in the run up to Christmas.
‘We expect this new model of iPhone to hold its own due to a combination of some impressive new features including an improved camera and a voice-driven assistant in Siri, as well as deals like Three’s One Plan which is offering a healthy combination of minutes, texts and unlimited data at a competitive price point.’
