Nokia is understood to be planning to launch a tablet that runs on Microsoft's Windows operating system in the summer of 2012.
According to a transcript of an interview between the head of Nokia France, Paul Amsellem, and Les Echos newspaper, Nokia will be using Microsoft Windows 8 for tablets, with the first device expected in June 2012.
The tablet would compete with Apple's iPad but when asked to comment on the report, a Nokia spokesman said: ‘We have not announced any specific plans as it relates to tablets.’
Nokia last month unveiled two sleek new Microsoft Windows phones in time for Christmas, a first step in the ailing manufacturer's fight back against Apple and Google. The Lumia 800 was released in the UK today.
Of future handsets, Amsellem compared the devices to BMW car models and hinted a better model to the 800 would follow. ‘(Lumia 800) is just the equivalent of the BMW 5 Series. We will soon have a full range with a Series 7 and Series 3.’
