Orange unveils San Francisco II value Android handset

Orange has confirmed it will launch a successor to the award-winning Orange San Francisco in time for Christmas.

The Orange San Francisco II will go on sale via Orange shops, Orange telesales and the Orange online shop in late November and will be available for £99 on Orange pay-as-you-go with £10 top-up and free on 24 month plans starting at £10.50 per month.

The Android-powered handset’s innovative features will include HD Voice for clear, crisp call quality, Signal Boost allowing users to benefit from enhanced indoor coverage, an improved 800MHz processor, five-megapixel camera and Orange Mobile Mail.

The handset also features the latest Android Gingerbread 2.3 operating system, providing users with access to Android Market so they can download thousands of the latest new apps. It also contains a bright, clear 3.5-inch WVGA capacitive TFT touch-screen, 512MB of internal memory and a slimmer and more lightweight body. The San Francisco II is expected to build upon the fan base of its popular predecessor.

In addition, several key apps are preloaded onto the handset, including: Orange Wednesdays; offering 2-4-1 cinema tickets; Your Orange, allowing users to keep up to date and manage your account, and Orange Contacts Back-up. The handset also features A-GPS, MP3 player and a built-in FM radio to complete the line-up of essentials.

Orange UK director of products and devices Paul Jevons said: ‘The Orange San Francisco II is a fitting successor to the award-winning first model, and offers the latest developments in data, voice and design. We are delighted to be following up on the success of the award-winning original with such a full-featured product and we expect it to be really popular with consumers in the run up to Christmas.’

The Orange San Francisco was voted Best Value Phone in Mobile’s sister magazine, Mobile Choice’s Consumer Awards earlier this year. The handset is manufactured by ZTE.
