Manufacturers add to information on accessibility
Mobile phone manufacturers have agreed to enhance their reporting of features on devices to assist customers with special needs or disabilities.
The Mobile Manufacturers Forum (MMF), whose members include Samsung and Nokia, plan to add the details of 15 new features that are becoming more prevalent on mobiles, such as high contrast displays or voice notes.
The changes mean the MMF will report on more than 110 features as part of its Global Accessibility Reporting Initiative website at www.mobileaccessibility.info.
MMF secretary general Michael Milligan said: ‘These changes are a direct result of our discussions with users and groups around the world and will make it even easier for consumers to find a phone that will meet their individual needs.’
The MMF said the extension of its service was timed to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
