Britons to spend £1.6bn using mobiles this Christmas
British shoppers will make £1.61bn of Christmas shopping purchases from their mobile phones, according to new estimates.
According to figures from the Centre for Retail Research, £13.4bn will be spent online on gifts this Christmas. It said purchases made from a mobile will account for 12% of this figure, in a sign that ‘mobile payments have gone mainstream’. Websites were expected to have its busiest day trading on 5 December, which has been dubbed 'Cyber Monday' by many retailers.
Simon Walker, director of product management at strategic information management company Stibo Systems, said: ‘Many retailers are no longer competing on price alone. A great mobile store, filled with detailed product information and rich content, will hold a retailer in good stead to get their slice of the £13.4bn.'
