Graham Harris has stepped down as CEO of Tesco Telecom amid plans to restructure the business and bring it back into the wider non-food department.
Mobile understands Harris left for personal reasons and will be replaced by commercial director Roger Fogg, who has been with the supermarket for more than 15 years, most recently in the personal finance department.
Harris was appointed CEO of Tesco Telecom in March this year after former CEO Lance Batchelor left. Tesco Telecom is in charge of the supermarket’s 200-plus Phone Shops and its MVNO operation Tesco Mobile.
Sources said the new CEO will complete a restructuring of Tesco Telecom, which Harris had started before his departure. The move will realign Tesco Telecom and Tesco Mobile more closely with Tesco’s electronics division, which it hopes will create greater synergy between the two divisions. There are also plans to use more Tesco Tech staff in the mobile stores.
The source said: ‘[Tesco Telecom] was a standalone business and got a boost of industry experience, but it was not a model that the Tesco management was entirely happy with. They never knew what it was up to and it was often in conflict with the other part of the electronics business.’
Tesco refused to comment on the restructure.
