Motorola estimates it shipped 10.5 million phones during Q3

Motorola estimates that smartphones accounted for more than half of all devices shipped in its preliminary fourth quarter results.

The company predicts Q4 sales of $3.4bn, 'with modest profitability'. When it reported its third quarter results in October 2011, it posted net revenues of $3.3bn.

The manufacturer said its sales estimates include shipments of 10.5 million devices during the quarter, of which 5.3 million were smartphones. During its third quarter, it shipped 11.6 million devices, of which 4.8 million were smartphones. Motorola will give a clearer indication of its sales when it issues its fourth quarter results at the end of January 2012.

The company said it is working closely with Google over its proposed $12.5bn takeover, which was announced in August 2011. It said it expects the takeover to be completed early this year.
