O2 signs deal for businesses to create their own apps

Telefónica Digital has signed a deal for its O2 business customers to build their own mobile apps.

The deal is with cloud-based mobile app developer FeedHenry and works on a subscription model. It will be launched by O2 in the UK during the first quarter of this year. O2 will manage the contractual and billing relationship. Businesses can create apps and have them deployed across Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7 and Nokia operating systems.

Telefónica Digital chairman and CEO Matthew Key said: 'This partnership will be welcome news for any organisation that recognises the power of mobile apps and how they can drive increased revenue, boost employee productivity and enhance the overall customer experience. We’ve enjoyed great success launching a similar platform in Ireland earlier this year and already list Aer Lingus, Diageo and PWC among our customers.'

The service will use FeedHenry's mobile application platform, which allows apps to be developed across standard formats like HTML5, Javascript and CSS and can be sent to all major mobile devices with a single click.
