Transport strike to hit Mobile World Congress

A transport strike is due to hit the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, which runs from 27 February until 1 March.

The strike was announced by TMB, the main public transport operators for the metro and bus network in the Spanish city.

Event organisers GSMA said this could have a severe impact on public transport during the four-day event, which is expected to attract around 60,000 attendees.

Workers are protesting against a planned wage freeze, according to the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

A statment on the GSMA website read: "The GSMA understands that this could present a significant concern for attendees of Mobile World Congress.

'We are currently working with authorities from the city of Barcelona and the region of Catalonia to assess this situation and to develop contingency plans to address this issue. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.'
