Fujitsu in talks with operators about bringing handsets to Europe

Fujitsu is in talks with operators about launching a range of handsets in Europe.

The manufacturer is displaying new devices at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. These include a quad-core phone, a waterproof tablet and what it is billing as the world’s thinnest waterproof smartphone.

Fujitsu’s European director of mobile Robert Pryke said: ‘Details of timings and devices that will be made available in European countries will be dependent on the outcome of ongoing negotiations with operators across Europe, including those with a pan-European footprint and those that provide services in just one territory. The company is looking for the right partnerships that will lead to steady and sustained growth.’

He said Fujitsu has a 20% share of the Japanese domestic mobile market. It is the latest Asian company to announce plans to enter the European smartphone market. In December, Panasonic said  it was bringing new devices to the western market.
