Research in Motion 'could bring forward poor Q4 results'

BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion could bring forward its pending fourth quarter results and forecast a poor start to its next financial year, analysts have claimed.

Its fourth quarter comes to a close on Saturday (3 March), with the manufacturer due to report its performance on 29 March. Jefferies & Co analyst Peter Misek said there was more than a 50% chance that the manufacturer would negatively pre-announce its performance.

He said: 'We believe street numbers will likely be revised down given the lack of major new products in the near-term and continued sales challenges due to competitive pressure from both low-end and high-end devices.'

Misek added that the likely launch of the iPhone 5 ahead of RIM's range of BlackBerry 10 devices in September is also a concern for the manufacturer.
