Vodafone Germany signs five-year deal with BMW

New BMW cars in Germany will be able to automatically dial emergency services following a crash or offer traffic advice following a new five-year deal with Vodafone.

From the summer, all new BMW series vehicles will be fitted with a mobile Sim card from Vodafone Germany. Using machine-to-machine (M2M) technology, the Sim will provide customers with access to features such as BMW Online Services, which provides an emergency call function and personal concierge service.

Vodafone said the technology will become more crucial with the introduction of eCall. The forthcoming system is an automatic emergency call service currently being developed by the European Union. From 2015 onwards, all new cars will be fitted with the latest mobile connection and a Sim that automatically calls the emergency services in the event of an accident.
