Google rebrands Android Market as 'Google Play'

Google has rebranded its Android Market as 'Google Play' and revamped the categories within the store.

The app store's books and videos apps will become 'Play Books' and 'Play Movies'. Google is marketing Google Play as a 'digital entertainment destination' and said it will be entirely cloud-based, so all entertainment content will be stored online. The Android Market will be updated within the next few days, along with the new app categories.

Google's director of digital content Jamie Rosenberg said: 'Our long-term goal is to roll out as many different types of content as possible to people around the world, and we’ll keep adding new content to keep it fresh.'
