Cheap and thin from Motorola
Motorola has launched yet another slimline barphone, hoping that the low-cost device will help it increase sales in emerging markets.
The 9mm thin FONE handset features basic functionality but is expected to sell at a budget price. The svelte device uses a black-and-white electrophoretic display, similar to an LCD screen, which provides high contrast even in direct sunlight and helps keep both weight and production costs down.
The manufacturer is hoping that the handset will appeal to first-time users and budget buyers despite its lack of features. It is expected to launch during the second half of 2006, although pricing details are yet to be announced.
