Prada beats N95 to top
The LG Prada phone shot straight to the top of the Mobile sales charts, with the Nokia N95 hot on its heels in the number two spot.
Mobile's contract Tracker shows that in the first week of sales, the Prada was the top-selling handset at Phones 4u and the third best-selling handset at The Carphone Warehouse. The two high-profile and high-cost handsets made a near simultaneous debut at Easter.
However, the N95 is now Carphone's top seller. Sales were bolstered by the fact that 1,000 customers had put down pre-order deposits for the handset with the retailer.
Andrew Connell, head of multimedia for Nokia UK, said Carphone had sold 'thousands and thousands and thousands' of N95s so far, although he would not offer a precise figure. Earlier this month, Connell said that Nokia was confident the N95 would outsell the N73, which sold 50,000 units in its first month.
'The N95 has been the fastest and most valuable launch of any device we have done to date,' he said. Connell also confirmed that Nokia had so far managed to meet the massive demand, with all channels receiving adequate stock.
The LG Prada was Carphone's third best-selling handset in its first week of release. The retailer plastered its store windows with images of the device, which have now been replaced with promotional material for the N95.
