Alcatel signs 100,000 Woolies deal
Alcatel has shipped over 100,000 low-cost handsets into Woolworths as part of its strategy to claim a big share of the UK entry-level market.
A pink variant of the E256 clamshell, with a colour screen, games and ringtones, is selling for £25. The E105 barphone is priced even cheaper at £20. Both handsets are sold on Virgin Mobile.
Alcatel's UK sales chief, William Paterson, is understood to be planning to launch a range of handsets this year. The manufacturer has already launched six handsets in the UK on Orange and T-Mobile. In contrast, only one Alcatel device appeared in the UK last year.
One other network is understood to be currently finalising details on a big order with the manufacturer.
