Shine on target
LG's Shine handset has outsold the Chocolate by 50% since its launch, according to LG.
The company claimed that in the three weeks since the launch of the Shine in Korea, around 1,500 handsets have been sold each day – 500 more per day than the Chocolate.
LG is hoping the Shine's rapid sales are an indicator that the handset will enjoy similar or even greater success than the Chocolate, which it claims has now sold over 4.5 million units outside of the Korean company's home market. The LG Chocolate was a bid by the handset maker to move out of the shadow of its better-established rival Samsung. The Chocolate sold well in the UK, but was later eclipsed by Samsung's E900.
'Shine is selling 1,500 a day,' said LG marketing manager John Bernard. 'If that extrapolates, it should be a monster hit.'
The device will be launched as a 2.5G device, with a 3G version to follow.
