Nokia dismisses lawsuit over Windows Phone deal

Nokia has said a lawsuit filed against the manufacturer, which claimed its deal with Microsoft to revive the business has failed, is 'without merit'.

The class-action suit was filed last week in New York by a single investor. It said Nokia's most recent results, which revealed a loss of €219m, showed the strategy was not working. The filing said: 'Defendants told investors that Nokia’s conversion to a Windows platform would halt its deteriorating position in the smartphone market. It did not.'

It added that Nokia's recent decision to update, rebate and swap Lumia devices suffering from dead data connections in the US meant it was effectively giving away the phones for free.

In a statement, a Nokia spokesperson said: 'Nokia is reviewing the allegations contained in the complaint and believes that they are without merit. Nokia will defend itself against the complaint.'
